Welcome to the Spreewald village of Lehde

Together
The location and the need to organize themselves on and around the water have developed a special community among the people of Lehde. The “Lehd’schen” – as we call ourselves – are dependent on each other and have maintained a close neighborhood for centuries.

Life
Many families have lived in the village for several generations and have since then enjoyed mastering their individual daily lives here. The difficulties in the Spreewald have always been different from those on the “mainland”. The farmsteads are looked after, even though many are now dependent on a job outside the village.

“Staken”
“I’m going over to the neighbors!” Where life flourishes along a road, you probably go by foot or by the bike to get to your neighbor. Not so in our small Spreewald village of Lehde! Here, the clocks of daily life tick a little differently. The quickest way to reach your neighbor, who usually lives across the water, is by a Spreewald typical wooden boat called “Kahn” (kaːn).

Visit
With its typical Spreewald farmsteads and labyrinthine waterways Lehde is one of a kind in the Spreewald. Here you can still find real village life, just on the water. But you will also find numerous accommodation options and leisure activities. You can set off from Lehde on a boat trip, canoe tour, by bike or on foot.
Support
Preserving this extraordinary daily life – the many traditions in the village community, the maintenance of the typical landscape and the support of agriculture and especially the preservation of the Spreewald meadows with the traditional haystacks – is particularly important to us as the Förderverein Lehde e.V.
By the way: If you wish, you are welcome to make a donation to help preserve the uniqueness of our village.
