Buildings & monuments in Lehde
Oldest barn in Lehde
The oldest barn in Lehde is located on the Dolzke and is around 300 years old. This historic log house stands on six stones and its roof was built without the use of metal materials, but was joined together exclusively with wooden joints. Over time, the barn suffered considerable damage to the structural fabric of the building, particularly to the roof, which allowed moisture to penetrate and the wooden structure began to rot.
Since 1999, the German Foundation for Monument Protection, among others, has been financing the restoration of this important building so that a comprehensive timber renovation and the renewal of the roof could be carried out.

Lehde war memorial
The war memorial in Lehde was inaugurated on the Sunday of the Dead in 1924. It commemorates the fallen of the First World War from the village. Every year on Remembrance Day, the comrades of the Lehde volunteer fire department commemorate the victims of war with a wreath-laying ceremony.

Restaurant “Fröhlicher Hecht”
The inn was founded by the Richter family in 1640 and became a popular meeting place for artists at the end of the 19th century. Well-known painters such as Carl Röchling and Richard Eschke were among the guests and left works in a specially set up gallery. Since 1886, the inn has borne the name “Zum Fröhlichen Hecht”, inspired by the “excellent young pike” and the cheerful atmosphere in the house.
In 1975, the original building was demolished and replaced by a new building, although the old Wendish hall and the summer house were preserved. Today, the restaurant is heavily geared towards tourism, with the Lehde Open-Air Museum located directly opposite.
