Spreewald in winter
The Spreewald has a very special atmosphere in winter. Without foliage, the numerous trees appear delicate and open up a new, deeper view of the landscape. When it is cold enough and the rivers freeze over, they turn into natural ice rinks – perfect for ice skating. The otherwise typical Spreewald barges remain on land, and instead we move along on the ice.
Transportation is carried out with normal sledges or traditional push sledges. These special companions, reminiscent of an armchair on runners, are ideal for leisurely excursions through the winter landscape. In the winter months, however, life goes on indoors. While the women make elaborate handicrafts and renew the traditional costumes, the classic wicker baskets continue to be woven.
