Pack handover in Raddusch

Start of the season in Raddusch

On Saturday, the pack was handed over to the local barge ferry association in Raddusch harbor to mark the official opening of the season. Chairman Detlef Mecke took over the pack from Anja Kienz. Beforehand, the children of the Raddush day care center “Marjana Domaškojc” had put on a program lasting almost an hour. Dressed in children’s costumes and sometimes also in Sorbian, they were a great addition to the festival, much to the delight of the numerous vacationers present, who were very busy taking photos and filming. The arrival of the Trachtenkinder in the barge, paced by Diana Kolosser in traditional costume, was the motif of her choice! Later, the traditional costume children’s dance group – also in a barge – arrived at the festival site. They performed the typical Raddusch ribbon dance and other dances before the pack was handed over. Local historian and presenter Manfred Kliche told the guests about Wendish traditions throughout the year, while Anja Kienz and Sandy Ackermann, the two leaders of the dance group, presented details of the traditional costumes. As with many traditional festivals, the festive program ended with the obligatory Annemarie polka, which some holidaymakers also tried out.

Many Radduscher helped out, countless trays of cake were emptied, the pancake irons didn’t cool down and the smell of barbecue was in the air. Berthold Lehnigk and Sigrid Konzack demonstrated old handicraft techniques such as basket weaving and spinning. The Limberger Musikanten then played for the dance.
