Over the last few weeks, the otherwise clean and friendly-looking Spreewald village of Raddusch has shown its ugliest side: stickers from so-called soccer fans on almost every lamppost, traffic sign and other high-profile locations. The bus shelter on the village square in particular made a devastating impression, because in addition to the notorious stickers, paint was also daubed on it. The little house stands in stark contrast to the neighboring village square, which is currently being prepared with much love and effort and not a little expense by the people of Raddusch for the May festival. Here loving design work, next to it senseless destruction.<\/em><\/p>\n

Bus shelter Raddusch a few days ago<\/em><\/p>\n\n

It was obvious to some Radduscher that this could not remain the case. They did not believe in apportioning blame, but called on everyone – children, young people and their parents – to repair the damage. Katrin K\u00fcster launched an appeal, which was posted in the bus shelter and shared in the local social media groups. Among other things, it states: “Regardless of what happened in the bus shelter, a fundamental question arises: what values are we teaching our children right now? That’s why it’s important to take a step back now: Until it is clear who was involved, we should absolutely hold back on accusations. We were all children once, we all know that mistakes happen. What matters is how we deal with them as a community.”<\/p>\n

Her appeal to parents and their children is therefore: Let’s repair the damage together with our children, regardless of whether they are to blame or not! Three parents and around ten children responded to her call. There would certainly have been more if there hadn’t been a fire department festival at the same time, at which the Raddusch youth fire brigade group was also involved!<\/p>\n

A family who had recently moved to Raddusch came along with their two teenage daughters Lucy and Leni. Andreas Bl\u00fcmner: “It goes without saying that we should get involved in village life and set a good example!” Both girls diligently scrubbed off the graffiti from the bus stop, which Andreas Bl\u00fcmner immediately repaired with fresh glaze. Father Mathias Klinkm\u00fcller: “Initially, I was worried that taking part might be seen as an admission of guilt, but this issue didn’t play a role during the campaign. This approach was exactly the right reaction to this act of vandalism!”<\/p>\n

Katrin K\u00fcster could have imagined even more participants on the evening of the day, but also took note of the objective reasons. “We parents share the cost of the cleaning agents and paints. But it’s more important for us that this example sets a precedent. It shows how we can improve things together and make progress – without pointing fingers at each other!” Their hope that the real perpetrators would somehow come out was not fulfilled. Which was perhaps a good thing at this point, otherwise the cleaners would have quickly split into two camps. But now that everything is chic and beautiful again, the holidaymakers and May can come, a little remorse on the part of those responsible would be appropriate – and also their courage to face up publicly.<\/p>\n

Of course, the question of how long the little house would remain so beautiful was always in the air. But perhaps the perpetrators have come to the realization that graffiti doesn’t do anyone any good, it ultimately only causes trouble – and calls the whole village community into action. That is the hope.<\/p>\n
